Breaking the Mould™ is a process designed to release the power in the individual at work. The result of releasing that power is an astonishing performance improvement. The Breaking the Mould™ process focuses on removing the frustrations and obstacles that daily cause us to do less than our best. We believe that everybody wants to do a good job. Breaking the Mould™ creates the conditions that allow us to do a good job. How does Breaking the Mould™ work? Conventional Management thinking, when trying to find performance improvements, confines itself to making so-called “Transactional Changes”. Transactional changes are changes that concern themselves with a single solution to a single problem. Generally the top of the organisation formulate these changes and relay them to the workforce as a fait accompli. The workforce will always, almost inevitably, resist these changes because the workforce is made up of human beings and human beings hate being told what to do. Breaking the Mould™ focuses on delivering “Transformational Change” - the process of changing attitudes and behaviours. It removes the frustrations and obstacles to performance to create conditions that allow people to take ownership of their work. What is Ownership? Ownership can be difficult to define. Looking at the difference in the way that we treat our own car and a hire car will give us some idea of the performance that is available when we create the right conditions to give us ownership at work. Ownership is the transformational change that defines the difference between the way we treat a hire car and our own car. Does anyone ever wash a hire car? Why should we wash it? It is not ours. But we wash our own cars. Nobody tells us how to do it and there are no rules that tell us when to do it, but we do keep our cars clean, we service them, we look after them, in short we own them. We take pride in our own car but none in the hire car. That is the difference that ownership makes. We can’t give people ownership but Breaking the Mould™ creates the conditions that allow them to take it. When people take ownership their performance is amazing.
The graph shows an 800% performance improvement for a single process in six weeks. That improvement was sustained and repeatable. It was achieved using the Breaking the Mould™ process. |
